2011 IKAR Conference, Spring Field Session, Revelstoke BC

The Canadian Avalanche Association hosted the first North American meeting of the International Commission of Alpine Rescue’s Avalanche Committee, held in Revelstoke BC from March 22-24, 2011. This three day conference brought together mountain and avalanche rescue personnel from around the world to discuss avalanche education, avalanche prevention, and search and rescue procedures.

WBR President Dean Cardinale attended the conference and related the quality of the instruction was excellent.  Not to mention the terrain surrounding Revelstoke B.C. is simply world class.  The focus of this field session was to share the various countries challenges and successes in avalanche related activities with particular focus on avalanche training and certification, search and rescue across large regions, and emerging challenges in avalanche prevention and rescue.
