Jackson Hole Ski Patroller Buried in Avalanche

Tuesday at approximately 8:26 am one of our Brothers, longtime Jackson Hole Ski Patroller, Mark “Big Wally” Wolling, was buried in an avalanche.  Mark was performing avalanche mitigation work inside the resort when he was apparently caught and swept over a cliff and subsequently buried under six feet of avalanche debris.  Mark was quickly transported to the base clinic and then transferred to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he is in the Intensive Care Unit.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Mark and his family.  The brotherhood in this profession is strong and on behalf of the members of Wasatch Backcountry Rescue we are praying for a safe recovery for Mark and send our love and support to his crew and loved ones.
