WBR at Solitude for Directional Training

On July 17th WBR met at Solitude Mountain Resort for summer training. There were fourteen dog teams in attendance which is a pretty good showing for this time of year. The day began with our normal Obedience and Socialization and then moved into Directional or Directed Search Training 101. The goal with this type of searching to direct the dog into a search area with the handler at distance. This can be quite helpful when searching uphill or when obstacles such as tree islands or small cliff bands are involved. As always, we started very simple to make sure the dogs understood what we wanted and to keep the exercise positive and fun. I was pleased to see so many teams already using some type directed searching and because of this there was a nice exchange of ideas. Thanks to all those who were able to participate.
