MEMBERSThe Canyons

The Canyons Ski patrol is made up of 80 full-time professionals and 40 NSP volunteers. The resort is Utah’s largest featuring over 3700 acres and 8 mountain peaks, this terrain encompasses over 140 avalanche starting zones and allows access to numerous large backcountry avalanche areas.
The Canyons patrol works closely with Summit County Search and Rescue to provide professional resources, training and rescue teams.
Our dog program is comprised of six working dogs and one retired resort dog.
- Maully is our top dog going into her 7th year of service as a Level A dog and is handled by Paul Santana, who is also the Dog coordinator for the Resort.
- Roxy is six and is coming off knee surgery and looking to comeback strong this year and regain her A status. She is handled by Mike Todd and has been to the Swiss dog school in Stevens Pass, WA.
- Voodoo is four but still thinks he’s a puppy. He is handled by GJ Stone and they are off to Golden, BC for the CARDA school this December.
- Abby is three, she achieved her first Level A last spring and is handled by Chad Deavers.
- Linus is Abby’s twin brother and also achieved Level A last Spring. Her handler is Dan Costaschuk.
- Scoop is the newest and most traveled of our Dogs, he is a two year old Black Lab, also handled by Paul Santana, and went to Andermatt, Switzerland last winter and looks to move from Level B to A this season.
- Wookie is about to turn 11, she retired last year and hangs out a few days a week doing PR and enjoying attention. She is the only dog to achieve WBR level A with three legs.
The Canyons has a mix of resort owned and handler owned dogs, but supports the program with food, vet bills, training and the gear to get the job done.
